Types Of Catheter

Foley: A Foley catheter is a flexible tube inserted into the bladder to drain urine. It features a balloon at one end that is inflated to keep the catheter in place.
Central Venous: This type of catheter is placed in a large vein, usually in the neck, chest, or groin, and is used for delivering medications, fluids, or nutrients directly into the bloodstream.
Peripheral Venous: It is a short catheter inserted into a peripheral vein, often in the arm, for administering medications or fluids, particularly in situations where intravenous access is required for a short duration.
Hemodialysis: This catheter is utilized for hemodialysis, a procedure that filters waste products from the blood for individuals with kidney failure. It allows access to the bloodstream for the removal and return of blood during dialysis.
Epidural: An epidural catheter is placed in the epidural space of the spine to deliver pain-relieving medications for regional anesthesia, commonly used during childbirth or for postoperative pain management.
Irrigation: This type of catheter is used for irrigating or washing out cavities or wounds, such as in cases of bladder irrigation to remove blood clots or debris.
Nasogastric (NG) Tube: While not strictly a catheter, an NG tube is a flexible tube inserted through the nose and down into the stomach for administering nutrition, medications, or removing stomach contents.
